Description The Contract Automation Technologist is responsible for
executing moderately to complex automation tasks under general
supervision, with a primary focus on integrating field devices into
automation systems. This role provides ongoing technical support
for automation host systems, troubleshoots hardware and software
issues, and ensures data integrity and system reliability. The
Automation Technologist acts as a technical subject matter
resource, supports and drives automation initiatives, collaborates
with operations and engineering teams, and manages multiple
concurrent automation projects while adhering to industry standards
and best practices. Responsibilities Execute moderately complex
automation tasks supporting device integration into automation
applications, focusing on automation software and/or hardware.
Provide ongoing support for automation host systems, including
system uptime, data analysis, database updates, point-to-point
checkout, and documentation. Configure devices, troubleshoot alarms
and hardware failures, and provide daily technical support and
guidance to operations. Maintain historical data and system
records; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality issues at
the business unit level. Collaborate with operations, facilities
engineering, and automation teams to define and implement field
automation solutions. Facilitate and drive automation projects from
concept through completion, including pilot projects and
development of automation guidelines. Support field operations by
identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and value through
automation solutions. Assist in identifying strategic automation
opportunities and provide automation support to operational
decision-support functions. Participate in continuous improvement
initiatives by evaluating issues and recommending effective
technical and business solutions. Prioritize, organize, and manage
multiple concurrent automation projects while adapting to changing
priorities and following established project management practices.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance as appropriate. Skills
and Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in
Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline, or
equivalent relevant work experience. Minimum of 3 years of relevant
experience in automation, instrumentation, production operations,
process control, or device integration. Industry experience in
energy, manufacturing, or industrial operations is preferred.
Technical Skills PLC programming experience (Rockwell /
Allen-Bradley PLCs). Automation system design and field device
integration. Experience with DCS systems (e.g., ABB 800xA or
similar). HMI development and support. Strong troubleshooting and
problem-solving skills. Understanding of ISA and IEC standards.
Equipment maintenance and regulatory compliance knowledge. Ability
to create and maintain technical documentation. Strong working
knowledge of digital tools and automation software platforms.
Certifications (Preferred) Certified Control Systems Technician
(CCST). Industrial Electrician certification. Instrumentation and
Control Technician certification. Core Competencies Strong oral and
written communication skills. Results-oriented mindset with
attention to detail. Active learner with a growth mindset. High
level of digital literacy. Ability to work independently and
collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Job Details Pay: Per
Diem Rate$225/day Mileage Rate$0.75/mile Pay Range$70/hr Truck OR
$50/day for personal truck Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10 hour days 6
month contract with opportunity to extend assignment Location:
