Description: POSITION SUMMARY The Family Engagement Coordinator
will be hired, trained, and supervised by LAEP. In partnership with
LAEP and partner schools, the Family Engagement Coordinator will
work to build effective family engagement strategies, cultivate
empowering family leadership, and strengthen authentic
relationships between families and school staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with partner schools in building sustainable parent
and family engagement strategies, including but not limited
to:
- Facilitating parent/family workgroups within the partner
schools to engage them as critical stakeholders and full partners
in school transformation strategies.
- Conducting ongoing outreach and facilitating dialogue with
families to ensure their voice and involvement in the continuous
improvement of the school.
- Coordinating programs and activities to support parent and
student involvement and engagement, that ultimately impacts the
collective families' success, including adult education services
and meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Conducting presentations and workshops that build up our
participating parents' sense of belonging, decision-making, skills
set, advocacy, and leadership development.
- Building up and transforming the culture of families as true
and equal partners at our partnering school sites.
- Meet with stakeholders to develop a family engagement
implementation plan designed to coordinate, integrate, strengthen
and manage resources and support at each school site.
- Partner with school staff to build the capacity of parent
centers, ensuring that the center models inclusivity, shared
decision-making, shared learning and collaboration, and authentic
relationship-building.
- Cross-collaborate with the other LAEP teams based at feeder
pattern partner elementary, middle and high school campuses;
develop workgroups to better address collective academic, social
emotional, and wellness needs of our families.
- Facilitate ongoing pipeline and feeder pattern collaboration
between our schools, engaging school staff at every stage.
- Participate in the collection and input of evaluation data used
to measure on-going program effectiveness of service providers and
progress towards the school's goals.
- Work with families, community partners, and the school in
developing transition programs for entry and transition to middle
school that address social-emotional adjustment and academics.
- Other duties as assigned. Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS
(KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- 2 years minimum experience developing and building programs,
within a school setting, that support student academic success
through parent and family engagement, leadership development,
advocacy and empowerment, and authentic and effective
collaboration.
- 2 years minimum school-based experience, specifically within a
K-12 school district.
- 2 years minimum experience mobilizing groups, building
partnerships with local organizations, and leveraging resources
within a community.
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, and
organizational skills; strong written and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse
teachers and staff members.
- Demonstrated success in working with students and families of
diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to quickly establish and maintain cooperative and
effective professional relationships, build trust in a limited
time, and engage with a broad range of school-based staff and
community partners.
- Ability to demonstrate effective skills in group facilitation,
managing teams/groups, organizational dynamics, and consensus
building.
- Cultural awareness and ability to navigate and promote
sensitivity with issues of race and equity and knowledge of racial
equity and racial justice in the context of public education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the
ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing, to a broad range of audiences.
- Comfort using tools and methods to optimize support for a
remote staff (distance learning technologies, creative use of
video, virtual meeting technologies, etc.)
- Excellent project management skills, ability to balance
multiple priorities with proven ability to anticipate challenges,
solve problems and maintain a calm demeanor in high-pressure
situations.
- Strong analytical, time management, organizational and
interpersonal skills.
- Earns the respect of the school site staff and wider
community
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint)
- BA required, preferably in a related field such as education,
